Shirley Turpin (Lalan) Shirley Lalan entered Bishop Anstey High School as the winner of the Anglican Girls' Scholarship for the period 1948-1953. She attributes today's success in her life to the teaching and ideals of St. Hilary's. In 1962 there was a drive to enroll new members in the Old Hilarians' Association at which time she became a member and has been active in the Association ever since. She was elected to the Executive and remained there for quite a number of years during which time she served as Secretary and was honoured along with Daphne Solomon (the then President) for lengthy and efficient service, at the 1981 Luncheon. The annual Dinners, Cocktail Parties, Tea Parties and Children's Carnival are fondly remembered by her as hardworking but enjoyable times of the mid-60's, 70's and 80's. She took a sabbatical between the 80's and 90's although she continued to assist at every function hosted by the Association. She continues to serve as a member of the Student Health Intervention Programme, and one of the "bankers' at the annual School Bazaar. She is currently the Secretary/Bursar of our sister school, Bishop's Centenary College (St. Cecilia's). She was elected to the Executive and Presidency in April '98 and serves in that capacity until the present. |
