Elsa Morris

ELSA MARJORIE MORRIS

Retired

Miss Morris taught for several years before going into commerce in the Foreign Accounts department of T. Geddes Grant. An avid Girl Guider and netballer, she has served at various levels in many community service organizations, volunteering her time and energy over the years. She has been the Treasurer of the Old Hilarians for 16 years and is a founding member of St Hilary's Foundation.


Moy Hosang

MOY HOSANG

Businesswoman

Currently Secretary/Treasurer of the St Hilary's Foundation, her life has been one of service to the School over the past forty years, never forgetting service to church. She has combined service with business, having successfully operated in this sphere as well. Moy, an avid hockey player in her prime, represented Trinidad & Tobago in Hockey in Guyana and at the International Federation World Conference in Baltimore. Her wish is that today's student would be as proud of the Anstey Legacy as those who went before.


Catherine Cumberbatch

CATHERINE REID CUMBERBATCH

B.Sc, M.Sc.

Supervisor/Teacher

Miss Cumberbatch, holder of B.Sc in Home Economics, M.Sc in Education, taught Home Economics at Bishop Anstey High School from 1968 to 1992, and was instrumental in setting up the Student Nutrition Promotion programme during her tenure. She is an activist in the Network of NGO's for the Advancement of Women as well as an Executive member of the Caribbean Association of Home Economics (CAHE). She was rewarded for her outstanding contribution to Education and National Development in 1995 by the Ministry of Education and TTUTA in collaboration with UNESCO. Miss Cumberbatch is presently School Supervisor with the Ministry of Education.


Daphne Solomon

DAPHNE SOLOMON

Administrator

After leaving Bishop Anstey, she studied at the Palantype College, London. Miss Solomon returned to Trinidad in the mid-fifties and worked with the General Hospital, San Fernando until 1960. Daphne has had vast experience in the private service and is presently an Administrative Assistant, in the private sector. She has given yeoman service to the Old Hilarians for almost two decades.


Nourbese Phillip

M. NOURBESE PHILIP

B.Sc., M.A., L.L.B

Poet, writer and lawyer

Ms Philip was born in Moriah, Tobago, and completed her secondary education at Bishop Anstey High School. She has practised law for seven years in Canada. Ms Philip has published four books of poetry, several short stories, essays and a first novel "Harriet's Daughter" in 1988. Her manuscript collection of poetry was awarded the Casa de las Americas prize in 1988. In 1990 she was made a Guggenheim Fellow in poetry and in 1991 a Macdowell Fellow. Ms Philip in September 1995 was awarded the Arts Foundation of Toronto Award.


Susan James

SUSAN CRAIG JAMES

M.A., Ph.D.

Lecturer/Writer

Winner of Jerningham Silver medal in 1963, Ms Craig went on to take the Open Island Scholarship in Modern Languages in 1965. She is the holder of an M.A. in Sociology & Politics from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and a Doctorate in Philosophy from the London School of Economics & Political Science, University of London. Ms Craig has researched and written on community development and local Government. She has written and published on several areas of Caribbean life, including the family, labour and other social movements, and Caribbean social thought. She has been awarded a Scholarship from the Harold Wingate Foundation to complete her work on the only known historical sociology of Tobago for the period 1838-1938 "the Evolution of Society in Tobago" and Selected Documents on the Unification of Trinidad & Tobago (1889-1899) to mark the centenary decade of the Union in 1989-1999.


Rhoda Reddock

RHODA REDDOCK

M.A., Ph.D

Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Gender Development, U.W.I, St Augustine, feminist, sociologist, author

Ms. Reddock is a prolific author. She has written extensively both locally and internationally on a wide range of topics within her field. She currently has three manuscripts in progress. Ms Reddock is a recipent of the Rockerfeller Residency Fellowship to the Women's Studies Program, Hunter College of CUNY, N.Y. 1992-93.


Merle Hodge

MERLE HODGE

B.A., M.Phil.

Lecturer and Novelist

Ms Hodge is a Lecturer at the Department of Language & Linguistics at U.W.I, St Augustine. She has co-ordinated seminars dealing with "The Rearing of the Caribbean Child", "The Media and National Development" and many other conferences. She has written extensively as a freelance journalist and has publihed two novels, "Crick Crack Monkey" and "The Life of Laetitia", and several short stories for children, essays, articles on Caribbean family, Caribbean language, women's issues, and education.
