Though I only attended for a short time, I always view my time spent there as not only character-molding and responsible for the person that I am today, but some of the happiest years of my life.

Bishops Anstey was an experience that I will reflect on proudly all of my life. This motivation and life changing era wasn't direct but done subtily enough to go unnoticed. When I was at Bishops I had no clue that I was being molded into a strong, positive and successful person but it happened despite me:)

The Class of'58 has said goodbye to one of their own - always smiling and laughing to the end with Marilyn Evans. But she is in a better place now and her body has been renewed. On behalf of the rest of the Class I would like to convey our sympathy and words of comfort to the family and relatives. God is still on the throne.

Class of '58 stay tuned for reunion plans/suggestions for 2008 Alumnae Luncheon.

I wonder if you would pass on my congratulations to the Bishop Anstey High School Choirs who took part in this years competition.

They were excellent, very professional and put up well with the weather in Wales. Usually I attend the competition but due to other circumstances I watched them on the Internet and shall certainly buy a copy of the video from the Internet. I note from your comments on the web that you have recorded your singing previously and I should be grateful if you could kindly let me know how I can obtain copies. In the 70's I holidayed in Trinidad and Tobago and stayed with a family who's surname was DuBarry. They lived on the road between Fyzabad and Port of Spain. I thoroughly enjoyed the friendliness of your country.

Having been born in Wales, you music brought fond memories of my upbringing in Wales and I could feel the atmosphere that was generated by the Choir. I was so disappointed that I could not be present.

May I wish the choir and dancers the very best for the future and hope that sometime in the future you will come back to Wales.

Best wishes to you all and that includes the choir mistress who did an excellent job.

Names like Linda Suite, Rosamond Commissiong, Mary Beckles, Judith Stanford, Judith McEachrane, Wendy Akim, Pat Chow Quan, Joanne Cosgrove, Melissa Daniel, Helen Ottley, Sandra McIntosh, Tarini Mahabir, Vijaya Singh, Valarie Gill, Betty William-Smith, Louella Legere, Carole Hochoy, Lesley Hill, Paula Gajadhar, Marsha Burnett, and so many more names escape me. I remember so many faces. Would love to hear from all or any of them at . Who knows we might be neighbours and not know it. Looking forward, looking forward.

I love the Hilarian's website. My friend Janine Ferdinand (Diaz) told me about the site. Great to know that this has been established. I have such fond memories of my years in Bishops, and am very proud to be a graduate of such a wonderful institution. Would love to hear from any of my class mates who I have not seen in many, many years. It's nice to know what everyone is up to, and just to spread love and blessings!

MINISTRY ADVENTURES IN THE CARIBBEAN is an intriguing new book written by Gloria Josiah nee Murrell ('53 - '59). This book recounts vividly some of the significant experiences of herself and her husband who have lived and ministered on seven Caribbean Islands for over forty years. The book begins with a love affair, then gives a peek into the joys and frustrations of a clergy family, including comments by their three adult children. The front cover was painted by Denise Abool, my niece, and a Hilarian graduate, class of '93.

The Bishop Anstey High School Choir, Steel Ensemble and Dance Group, under the leadership of music teachers Ms Lorraine Granderson and Ms Tamara Martin, is again scheduled to participate in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales between July 8th and July 16th 2007.

The choir attended the Eisteddfod in 2005 and were very well received, so all efforts are being made to ensure that this trip is realized. The group, which includes student participants, musicians, BAHS teachers and other chaperones, is expected to number some 110 persons. The overall cost for this venture is over $1.5 MILLION TT. To date, the Wales 2007 Organising Committee has conducted several successful fund-raising activities within the school community and there are others yet to be implemented.

We would like to give Hilarians an opportunity to play a part in helping our sisters get to Wales in 2007. Therefore, we extend an open request to all Hilarians, especially former choir members to support our efforts to get our girls to Wales. Cheques may be made out to the BISHOP ANSTEY HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC FUND and sent to the the Schools Office at 1 Chancery Lane, Port-of-Spain: ATTN: MS GRANDERSON OR MS PEREIRA, WALES ORGANISING COMMITTEE. For further details on how else you can help, please contact either of these teachers via the school's office at 623-6591 or through . Thanks for your continued support. In memory of Gargi Bhat nee Balakrishnan:
Some of you will remember Gargi from BAJS (c. 1966-1970) and BAHS (1970-1971). It is with great sadness that I share with you her passing yesterday, February 22nd 2007. Gargi was one of my closest friends at school, and I don't think anyone from our year would forget her. My first memory of her was her being introduced into Mrs Dhanny's class - Form 1 - as "the little girl from India." She wore her hair in long plaits, braided with ribbons, which fell beneath her waist. She sat in class reading books written in Hindi and we gravitated towards each other because the other children perceived us both as "different." I, because of a congenital eye defect which led to me being nicknamed "one eye" and she because she spoke with a different accent and was not Trinidadian. We were both bookworms. I was the shy one, and Gargi gave me courage. She was not intimidated by anything and she sometimes unnerved the teachers by her probing and persistent questioning! She achieved much in her short life - became a teacher herself and travelled widely. I was privileged to meet her and her family in Bangalore, 21 years after we parted at BAHS. She will be greatly missed by all her friends. She leaves behind her husband, Rajiv, and two children, Mitul (16) and Anoma (14). For those who knew Gargi, please remember her family in your prayers at this time.

I paid a quick visit to Trinidad in November ( I was down for a funeral) I did spent some time during a Lydians rehearsal to 'check out " BAHS and admire the new buildings and paint job in the toilets outside what used to be Upper Third area. Unfortunately the "new hall" is just as diplapidated as the last time I was there - 2002. Walking around did bring back many memories, most of them very pleasant. Apart from Sandra Mahabir, I still see no posts from anyone in our years.

It was a pleasure to stumble across this website. I've always maintained that Bishop's holds many a wonderful memory for me. I have remained lifelong friends with the Bailey twins, who reside in Canada and together with my husband and 7yr old daughter visited with them in summer 2006. Its hard not to appreciate my years there and hope that my daughter could experience this one day. Its amazing how easy it is to "spot an Old Hilarian" in a crowd...I think something of the mannerisms developed at school remain with us for life - and that's something I'm proud of.

Note some of the things that we have accomplished: For the school hall, we helped with some refurbishing and then we purchased the chairs that are now there. Our donation was the first for the Science building. We refurbished the computer room. Yearly, we send a donation to SHIP and we give a book voucher to a school-selected 3rd form student. We are about to undertake another significant project but details have not yet been completed. We are proud of what we have been able to contribute to BAHS and we hope to continue for as long as we are able. All the money that has been used for the above has come from our profits from our fundraisers.
Looking for all who were in my first class. Upper 3A in '53. Mrs Ottley was Form mistress. The register went Ahow,Jacqueline; Ali,Linda; Arrindell,Jacqueline; Beadon, Jacqueline!! Others in class were Ann Maree Rodriguez, Jeannette Price, Wendy Fizgerald, Berkerley Waddell, Pat Khan Kernahan, Pamela Brown, Erica James etc Then by '60 it was Judith Hinkson, Sastri Dial, Indrani Sinanan,Marilyn Jones, Sheila Staveley, Pat Suckling, Rosemary Bayne, Andrea Cozier,Betty Buxo, etc and the memory fades. Don't see any of them listed and would like some info on others not mentioned if any of you reading this were in class with any of us.

Dear Alumni,

I'd like you to share this news with the fraternity, if that is at all possible, since I am a very proud Bishopian at this moment.

Nailah Adams attended BAHS from 1994- 2001. She is the daughter of Patricia Adams who attended BAHS from 1964 -1971, and the grand-daughter of Mrs Elma Henry-Townsed who attended from 1935-1940.
I know that her drive and pursuit of her mission in life has every thing to do the school's motto Non Sine Pulvere Palma and her hard work has paid off handsomly so far.
Although she has been accepted at Duke Medical School or Fall 2006 this has been deferred till February 2007as the family seeks the financal backing that the University requires -US$ 240,566.00.
Nailah's dream since 2002 has been to study medicine at Duke University, and with God's help she will achieve her gaol and return to Trinidad to work in the fields of Paediatrics and Sports Medicine.

Hello all: to those who know me, posting a message is not something I usually do. Perhaps its the nostalgia of realizing that this year would be ten years (class of 1996/98) since many of of have left BAHS, and upon reflection I wanted to say a few words. I hope that everyone is in good health and has continued on whatever journey that may have sarted ten years ago, and I look foward to seeing or speaking to many of you in the future ( a hint for someone far more organized than I to plan :)!).
My condolances also goes out to Adanna Ramsey, daughter of Mrs. Ramsey, who recentley passed away.

It's beem over a year since I've visited the guestbook, but it's so refreshing each time to read everyone's comments and reminisce about the good ole days in the choir with Ms. Sealy, sitting on the forbidden lawn, and making lots of noise even though we were in the open classroom, next to the staff room. You guys remember in form 2 waving the QRC boys when they passed in the street, and when we shut both classroom doors when we knew we had Spanish class, and pretended we were all asleep even when Mrs Garner came in to teach - we got in trouble, but it was a blast! Look me up you guys. Oh and Dara, congrats on your wedding this weekend, sorry I couldn't make it. I'll see you in New York. Take care everybody.

Hi guys, it is a pleasure to see and read the posting of fellow Hilarians, it gives you such pride to see the positive side of Trinbagonians especially after you read the web newspapers (it seems as though they are tallking about another country and people). It is a pitty that we all can't do a little bit more to ensure that the upcomming Hiliarians and young citizens have a chance to experince the dedication and guidance of their elders and or teachers as we did when we were at Bishops or growing up and God knows many of us would have been lost without them. Keep up the good work everyone and lets hope that younger ones learn to represent and portray their uniform and school with the pride and respect as we did.

Hi all!! I just discovered this webpage today through my good friend Jemila so I had to post something. I just have to say that I am so happy that I was not one of those girls just wishing that they could go to Bishops! I got to experience it first hand and I must say it was the best 7 years of my life! Graduated from 6th form in 2000 and I'm due to attain my Law degree in a couple months and then it's off to Law school in England! Keep the postings coming ladies!

Hey....I made it back to Trinidad (hubby and 3 of 4 sons too), after the last short one 21 years ago!!!! It was a nostalgic "down memory lane" visit that was long overdue. Besides catching up with all the family and watching the boys enjoy the Maracas and Tobago beaches, one of the biggest thrills for me was seeing and talking with classmates of '74. Thanks Gillian for hosting a mini reunion! It was WONDERFUL seeing the girls (actually after 29 years in some cases) and also talking on the phone with Susan, Leslie and Bliss. Also, thanks Joy, for popping by the hotel to chat. It was amazing to be able to lime after many years (for some of us at the reunion) as if it was only yesterday. Hey.. that's TRINI for yuh. Altho immediate family are all in Canada, I did feel pangs of homesickness during the long flight back to Singapore. Memories and friendships of those first 19 "formative" years will stay with me forever. Cheers and Thanks Girls~

Hi Ladies, 'D' form 82-87, wanted to reach out and let you know of the passing of one of our dear Hilarians, Nicole Phillips Willock. Nicole passed away on Friday December 16, 2005. She left behind her husband and two lovely daughters. Her legacy she leaves to her daughters, Samara and Saida. A smart Hilarian indeed, Nicole was always reaching out to others, accomplished most of her dreams, and established herself in the short time she spent with us. For those reading this message, please reach out to Hilarians and others who would have known her.

Hello fellow Hilarians. I want to send out warm wishes to the Class of 88/90. There's so many of you I miss and wish to reconnect with. I have many, many, many fond (and a couple not too fond) memories of my time there, and recently have brought some of them to the forefront to now deal with my biggest challenge so far. I'm currently in my second year of completing a four-year doctorate degree in Organizational Behaviour here in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, at McMaster University. It's been a tough first year, and I know year two will prove to be even tougher. Lately, I've found myself humming our school song 'To Be a Pilgrim', which has helped me in reaffirming my commitment to my research. People like Desmarie Joseph, Nicole Harris, Laila Boisselle, Sonja Gittens, Lisa Morong, Lisa Marcano, and Renee Marin (where are you Renee?), I hope all is well for you all. Keep in touch if you can. Regards, Karlene Harry

Hello to all of the Divas of the class of 1958. When Hyacinth Franklin-Bovell told me that this site was up again, I was really happy to be reading the interesting comments. On a serious note last night I happened to glance at the Trinidad Guardian's death notices on line, and I learned that Lindy Ann Bodden's son will buried tomorrow Wednesday. This must be extremely traumatic for Lindy Ann who is also a widow. I know that you all will join me in offering heartfelt condolences at this time. In the meantime, keep up the good works, good looks, and have the "young-uns" guessing our age.(smile)

Subject: BISHOPS GIRLS-TNT FUZION set to perform in LA

Hi,
I am the mother of one of eight young ladies from BAHS-TnT Fuzion carded to perform at the International Hip Hop Championships in LA at the Manhattan Beach Marriot August 17th - 22nd....
Prelims are at Manhattan Beach Marriott
1400 Parkview Avenue
Manhattan Beach, CA 90266
tel: 310.546.7511
fax: 310.796.0322

Finals are at Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center
1935 Manhattan Beach Boulevard
Redondo Beach, CA 90278
tel: 310.937.6607

We are so impressed by our girls' performance at the National Hip Hop Championships last Sunday-considering it was their first time entering-they placed third and qualified for the next leg in Los Angeles. Please help us to send them on their way

We urgently need funds to get the girls to LA and at such short notice Hilarians are among the only ones I can turn to since the school can't fund them. I have approached corporate sponsors but am awaiting replies. We have set up an account for their tickets at Lazarri and Sampson in Port-of-Spain. For donations to this venture please call Joanne Leeyuk at 623-2721. We also need help with uniforms, shoes and accomodations. The details on the event were sketchy at first and we apologise for not contacting you sooner. Please contact me Nicole Lee Kim at 868-736-6300 or Karen Walters at 868-756-0475.
Any support is welcome.

Subject: Class of '87 Reunion

Hey Class of '87,
I find this so cool to be able to find all you ladies again. I have browsed through the archives and we are out there and lots of requests for a reunion. I think it would be a great idea. Not sure how many of us are still in Trinidad but i for one would travel for this.... and get in a good beach lime of course. I just moved to San Francisco after living in Houston, TX and finishing school all over the place - from England to Seattle WA. I would love to hear from any of you, perhaps we can plan on a 20 YR Reunion - man we are old!

Subject:Congrats

Without even knowing who she was, the moment I saw her I knew she was a BAH-T. She started the year that I left and how she has done us proud again....Even Ole Wendy was being a little bias to the home girl. Is is me or does BAHS produce the biggest crop of Miss Universe front runners ? Danielle you've joined the ranks with Arlene Fitzwilliams and the rest.

Only the other day I was talking with another BAHSer about the number of BAHS women who have in fact done the beauty queen thing. Long before Arlene Peterkin there was Rachel Thomas (now Telemaque), Althea Rocke and Alicia Sealy, maybe even others I'm forgetting. Even Penny Commissiong apparently spent some time at BAHS before migrating to the US. Beauty pageant participation certainly wasn't something that Miss Shurland would have encouraged, however!

I thought Danielle did a fabulous job of representing herself and her country. Her answer tied in well with the occassion and although some may not see her response as a failure, it was to her- and what she learned obviously helped her to reach where she was. The question did not start with " You have five minutes and no one is looking, so take your time." She did very well and should, in my opinion, have been placed higher.

Trinidad-born Dr Patricia Horsham, paediatrician and lawyer based in Ottawa, has been chosen to receive the prestigious Harry Jerome Awards next month for excellence in community service. Dr Horsham, old girl of Bishop Anstey High School, originally from Barataria, is one of 12 to be honoured in this year"s Harry Jerome Award ceremony which annually recognises outstanding people in Canada"s black community. Also celebrated in this year"s Harry Jerome Awards is Louise Bennett-Coverley ("Miss Lou"), famed Jamaican poet, writer and folklorist who lives in Scarborough, Ontario.

Bennett-Coverley will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr Horsham, a specialist in the healing and protection of children, is a leading authority on child abuse and child sexual abuse, who lectures in Canada and in the Caribbean on the medico-legal aspects of child abuse. She has served as an expert witness in child abuse cases, and is a board member of the University of Ottawa International Association of Child Abuse and Neglect. Apart from practising medicine and teaching law in Ottawa, Dr Horsham is a noted mas player and carnival organiser in Ottawa and Toronto.

The Harry Jerome award is named after a champion black Canadian Olympian athlete of the 1960s. The Black Business and Professional Association (BBPA), which administers the awards, describes recipients as "stellar examples of excellence, commitment and success". The awards recognise high-performing black Canadians in academics, athletics, arts, business, community service, leadership, media and entertainment, professional excellence, and technology and innovation. The Lifetime Achievement, Trailblazer, and President"s Awards are three additional "special distinctions". Perdita Felicien, Canadian world champion hurdler, will receive this year"s Trailblazer Award.
