Since I heard about this site, I have been drawn to it every day. It is very nostalgic to see the names of women with whom I went to school from 1957 to 1962. There are so many people of whom I've thought over the years and I hope that this site will give me the opportunity to renew friendships which had fizzled some time ago. Happy New Year to everyone and congratulations on creating this site. Brenda

Well, I'm a recent Hilarian (Class of 1998/2000) and I always check back to the website to see if any of my former classmates try to keep in touch. Unfortunately, no. But I will pass the word around so that the more recent graduates can partake in the guestbook and let each other know where they are! I bet no one knows that I'm all alone here at Middle Tennessee State 30 minutes south of Nashville, Tennessee, Country Music Capital of the US! We need to link up people! Anyway, keep up the work on the page and I would really like to see some recent pictures of the campus posted on the page.

Hi Ladies, special greetings to the class of 89/91. Great news: Andrea Rochford-Douglas (and her husband Randall) welcomed Alexandria Kathleen Cynthia Douglas to their family on November 12th, 2002 at 7:15am (T&T time). Alexandria weighed in at 7lbs 6oz, 20 inches long and GORGEOUS! Just wanted to share with everyone, Andrea's mom is also a Hilarian, as are many other women in her family. From the postings, we've lost a few great Hilarians, just wanted to let all know the next generation of BAHS girls is well under way :) Congratulations Andrea and Randall!

I guess school days really are the best days of our lives, I say this in retrospect, of course :-)Visiting the Hilarians web site reminded me of just how unique and dynamic we Bishops girls are. By the way where are all the girls from 5C (1998), you know C form was always the best!!!!!!!

I am so happy to have found BAHS on the internet. I have been back to Bishop's just once with my husband John in March of 1979. Ms. Shurland took us all around the school and sat and talked with us. It was a fantastic visit. I began school when I was 6 years old upstairs above the Tuck Shop. I was in Miss Grey's palm tree classroom which I still can vividly remember. I left in 1958 to go to a boarding school in New Jersey. It was very hard for me to leave my friends and family and be isolated in a school away from home. However, I did stay in touch for a long time with many friends from Trinidad. This summer, I participated in costume in the Caribana Parade in Toronto with Lynne Kitney and her family. What a great time we had. nearly everyone was from Trinidad and I met women from St Joseph's Convent who were in the chorus that competed with ours every year. Miss Rawlins, later Mrs. Spence had a great influence on me and I was glad to see her when I was there in 1979. I wonder how she is. I also would love to get in touch with Lindy Ann and Sheilagh Mae Bodden, and Pat Bishop who were my friends. Also Eriza Rameshwar but her e-mail is listed. We all sang together and did a big concert at the school. I have such fond memories. I used to clean the chapel in the afternoons, I loved Scripture with Miss Cansfield and art with Mrs.Henderson. I am a music teacher and also perform as a singer and actress in the Metropolitan area. My son is a musician in Los Angeles. I hope to get back to Trinidad soon again and maybe some of you will remember me and can help me get in touch with some of my former BAHS friends. I was the blonde American girl who sang. Maybe that will help. (smile) My best to everyone at BAHS and hope Warner House is still strong if you still do that. I still have my BAHS hat! Joyce Bearden McGirr

Greetings to all the Hilarians. First of all I must say it is a pleasure to live in the nostalgia of BAHS again. I attended Bishop Anstey from 1975-1980 and was a class mate of Gilla Chung. I would like to through this web site offer condolences to all of her family and friends. On a brighter note I would like to say thanks to Valerie Edwards-Brown for introducing me to this site, it is wonderful to reminis. Finally I would like to say a special hello to all of my class mates. If possible please drop a line, would love to hear from you.

Just wanted to say how sad I was to hear of Anne Warner-Rogers passing. I knew Anne well from church – Grace Chapel, and from school where she taught me for a year. She made a tremendous impression on me – and her Christian faith in particular inspired me, an intellectual doubter at the time, to think again. We corresponded for a while, and her last letter, which I kept, was written in 1988. After this I lost touch and my letters to her were returned to me by the post office. It is thanks to this web site which I only discovered earlier this year, that I managed to contact her again once more, a month or so before she passed on. I am so glad about that. I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Joan and to Anne's family in Canada and in Trinidad.

Anne Warner-Rogers' husband, Dave, has asked me to convey the sad news of the passing of my dear cousin, Anne Warner-Rogers, at 2:30 p.m. today, Wednesday October 16, 2002 at Victoria, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Anne was 49. Dave wants us all to know that Anne was a fighter. He said that twenty years ago he was advised that she had only six weeks to live. Dave thanks all relatives and friends for their concern and care over the years. I must say, that throughout Anne's lengthy illness Anne maintained a sunny disposition, a positive attitude and an inquiring mind. Anne was genuinely interested in the lives of others, and discussing with them their day to day activities; much more so than than in discussing her own discomforts. She was indeed a role model! Also, her record-breaking history as a dialysis patient has earned her a place in medical journals. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 21, 2002 in the afternoon. The time has not yet been arranged. Those able to attend, may call the Church in a day or so at 250-744-2020 for the time. The Church address is : 4347 Wilkinson Road, Victoria, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Left to mourn her passing, in addition to her husband, Dave, Anne also leaves a daughter, Leila, aged 15. May Anne Rest In Peace.

Hello, fellow Hilarians, Yesteday, I posted a comment and I received in response, an email from Hazel Saigo in Tunapuna, very nice how this works... however, she pointed out to me that I had failed to mention my website address in yesterday's comment. Thanks, Hazel, so here it is: http://www.miasphotos.com. It's my photography site, and has email capabilities within it, for those of you who remember me and cared to visit and drop a line. I live in California, and I do not belive we have a chapter out here. Thanks.

Hello fellow Hilarians, I am a photographer living in Marin County, California, USA. I first visited the site in January 2002, and mentioned that I had my photography website under construction at that time. Well the site was 'launched into cyberspace' on 2/2/2 so if anyone remembers me they can visit the site and drop me a note (email capability is within the site). I have to thank Marlene Henry for first turning me on to this WONDERFUL Hilarian site. She was a classmate of mine, as well as Alison Beckles, Annette Tom, Lilly Mae Cumberbatch, Daphne Pierre, Elizabeth Smith, Colleen McNair, Mona Romilly, Gemma Benjamin(RIP),Susan Kerry, are just a few of the names popping into my head right now. 'Big up' to the webmaster/mistress (and all relevant parties)responsible for such a great site.

I tried to put a comment in the guestbook recently but it didn't seem to get there. Anyway, it is simply wonderful to read all the comments on this site. Thank you to Anne Ince for drawing my attention to it. I was at BAHS from 1966 to 1973. Here I am in the U.K.. still with all my BAHS-induced qualities and memories of those seven superb years. My husband is a Professor of Molecular Biophysics at King's College in the University of London and I am a Deputy Headteacher at a large (1020 students) comprehensive school in Abingdon, near Oxford. We have two sons, aged 16 and 13 who both attend school in Oxford. I hope some of my classmates will post an entry on this site!

Hello everyone. I am so glad that technology allows us Hilarians to keep in touch from all corners of the world. Thanks Gem Ible-Lewis for turning me on to this website. I had the good fortune of being Jillia Chong's classmate from 1975 to 1983. We were close at school but unfortunately lost touch after graduation. Thanks Marcia for posting the website of her obituary from the British Medical Journal.

Hello all. I feel in hallowed company having read some of the comments in the guestbook. And moved to tears for a hundred different nostalgic reasons. In particular my most heartfelt condolences to Jilla Chongs family. I was not "close" to her, but the news that one of us is gone is disconcertingly painful. On a high note, a very special hello to Pat Ruddell. I must echo the sentiments of some of my fellow posters and say not only were you one great Geography teacher; you were one great teacher. We are lucky to have you. Okay will go before I totally burst into tears. It would be wonderful to hear from anyone out there. Eve Steer nee Cartar

Hi, my name is Christine Griffith (nee Johnson) and although I left Bishop's in 3rd form, I still consider myself an Hilarian especially since I also went to Bishop Anstey Junior School. Had I been allowed to stay, I would have been part of the graduating class of 79/81. I was pleased to see a posting by Rosemary Callender (nee Ince) since she and I have managed to keep in touch all these years. Other girls I remember are: Jean McClean, Tara Dhanny, Carol McIntyre, Amanda Innocent (whom I have seen relatively recently), Christine Inniss, Leslie Lee, Cathy LeGendre, Joan Ann Lo Hing, Suzanne Farrell, Joanne Dupigny,Susan Groves, Alicia Sealy, Shelly-Anne Hackshaw (Foxeye),and of course my sister Inge, all from B form. The other names escape me at the moment. If anyone is wondering whatever happened to Mrs. Helen Lyder ("Woe betide anyone who opens their desk.....")well she's living here in Barbados and looks just about the same as all those years ago.If anyone is planning a reunion, count me in.

I left BAHS in 1977, did a doctorate in Caribbean history, then worked as a systems librarian for several years. I went to the Hilarians' brunch on Sat August 31. It was wonderful seeing the familiar (and older) faces. My cousins, Allison and Judy Ann Bennett, and I got a tour of the school from Ms. Pat Ruddell. It was great to be back on the school grounds. I could not stay long enough because I had to fly out that afternoon. However, the short time I spent was enjoyable.

It's really sad when one reads about the death of a classmate. Dying is something you never really think about especially when it's someone you went to school with. Jillia was in the A form, and I in B. I remember she played hockey, was extremely bright, especially in Physics. I somehow suspect I may have 'copied' her work from time to time . She also had the 'hair in one, with plait hanging on back style' very similar to myself and other one plaiters, notable Roxanne Rogers. Hearing about Jillia's death got me wondering about the other classmates of that year. I see people like Lizzie Walcott, Gem Ible, Alicia Hernandez, Georgia Popplewell, Gillian Goddard, Julie Gouveia - but where the hell are the rest of you? Anybody knows where Giselle Martin is? My thoughts go out to Jillia's family - May she rest in peace.

I have really terrific memories of BAHS - even those very challenging times under the tutelage of the one and only perfectionist, Mrs. Joyce Spence. I will never forget when Mrs. Spence called my mother and told her that I had to stop playing hockey so that I could concentrate on my A level music more! Mrs. Spence has a really big place in my heart as does Ms. Shurland. I have tried to pass the standards of excellence of BAHS on to my children and in the classroom when I taught.

We had our first reunion in December of 2000 Natalie did most of the coordination and I helped but I wasnt able to be there, but it would be wonderful to hear from everyone where you are now and what you are up to. IM in Tallahassee, Florida a town that is a far cry from the likes of Miami its in the middle of the boondocks but Im doing my PhD here in Marketing and they gave me a scholarship so such is life. What is everyone else up to? Omolara, Kim, Alisha, Sonya, Lizzy post stuff, lets hear from you guys and keep the Hilarian spirit alive. Does anyone have any news on Adelle? It is good to see that every posting hints at the impact our school has had on building lifelong friendships and shaping artists, activists and professionals. The school needs our continued financial support. The buildings themselves are currently being replaced or rebuilt for most of what we remember as Bishops is falling apart. Contact the Old Hilarians and see how you can give. All right you girls...you all can't be so busy that you don't have time to drop a line or two into the guestbook to let people know that you're still all right. TO ADELE: Good luck and good health girlfriend...I'm still praying for you. To the rest of the class of '90: SHAME ON YOU!!! I can't believe how selfish you guys are...and don't even try the "my job keeps me really busy and my home life is so hectic" thing - I just moved over 3000 miles on my own to the other side of the US to further my Culinary education/career at a prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School and I still not only found time to go back to Trinidad and visit the "old" new school and chat with some of the best teachers God ever put on this Earth: Jennifer Gittens (nee Ramsundar), Ms. Marchak, Mme M'Bongo (I don't remember her new name now -I apologize-) and of course the greatest Geography teacher - now Principal Ms. Pat Ruddell. I got a chance to meet with some of the 6th Formers and they somehow managed to bring a tear to my eye...make us proud girls. I want to hear from you people and I want to set up a tentative 15th anniversary date for 2005...I know that's a while away but I figured if I started now, we might actually have a good showing. ANyone interested in helping me, please do - since I don't live in Trinidad anymore, I wouldn't know where to even begin to hold something like this. Peace Out Sisters !!!

Hello to all you Hilarians on the World Wide Web. I must say that I have not had time to check out the site in a long while, but I am very pleased to see that more people are keeping in contact this way. I have just been re-elected President of the Association and we have a committee of eager "young" persons this year. We have a lot of work ahead of us and are always willing to get new ideas etc. to assist the school in moving onward and upward. To those of you who are asking about Miss Shurland, she is very well, and living in San Fernando. She looks exactly the same and still puts fear into the hearts of all us old girls. Tomorrow is the school's Valedictory service and another date to remember is the Annual luncheon which will take place on July 6th. Best wishes to all, and keep communicating. Marguerite-Anne Moore

Oh, what can I say? After teasing my mother for years upon years about being an Old Hilarian I've finally been classified as part of that category as well. I'm now at St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, NY with one more yr to finish my Bachelor's in International Business. Even though I've been here only 2 yrs, thank God, I can't wait. I'm quite surprised to see that several of my classmates signed the guestbook. Big up to the best yeargroup that BAHS ever had (Class of '97): Although they mixed up our classes after Form 1 we still were the best; 2nd place in Young Leaders in 1996 among many other achievements; in fact it brought us all closer together. I stayed there until '99 for Form 6 but I have to say it was the best seven years of my life and that I love every last one of you in my yeargroup cause regardless of differences we may have had we went through a lot together. BAHS, teachers, students everybody thanks for making me the person that I am. Oh yeah, it will be nice if sometime in the future the Class of '97 gets together for a reunion 'cause God alone knows what you all are doing...

Hi All, It's been a long time since I've reminiced about my school days and I'm happy to say that they were a blast! BAHS was very good for my soul and I hope that the current girls are enjoying the time they have left... cause it's a different ball game out here in the real world (sometimes I wish I were back in 3B sleeping in Math class with Mr. Cowie!) Have a good time girls. All who were in the Class of '95 hope things are great with you!

Just sitting in my office looking at the cherished school ring! It's comforting knowing that I along with many thousands have been part of the legacy of excellence that is Bishop Anstey High School. I want to encourage all Hilarians to strive for nothing but the best, and achieve it, for the only one who could stop you from doing it . . . .is YOU!! Best of wishes to all my colleagues of the Class of 1996!

Even though Gillian Bailey bugged me to no end I was not able to make it down to the reunion in February, 2002. I saw all the pics though, thanks to Gillian (I can't believe that she was the ONLY one to have a camera at this momentous event). It seems as though everyone had a grand old time. Hopefully I will be able to make it to the next one. We should try and not wait so long to have the next one. Where are the e-mail addresses of the attendees Allison?

Greetings to all! I spoke with my cousin, Anne Warner-Rogers, tonight and she graciously gave me her permission to post this message since there have been some inquiries: Anne has been ill for quite some time. She has been very brave and has maintained a cheerful, positive attitude in spite of any pain and discomfort. Several close family members have visited Anne over the past couple of months, including her older sister Brenda, also a Hilarian now living in England. Philomen Norman-Wright, I passed on your message. Anne remembers you and your wedding. She said that her father, Uncle Bernard ( your godfather) gave you away. Anne was a senior prefect at Bishops. Her last year as a student was 1971. She then taught Math and Spanish at Bishops for a year before leaving to attend University in Canada. Anne said that she welcomes the prayers and support of all who wish her well. She has been at low points over the years and has, with prayers, pulled through. She has asked me to invite those who know her, and want to communicate with her to e-mail her at: drogers@access.victoria.bc.ca Anne will be 49 on April 19, 2002.

Hey, ladies! I really should visit this site more often... To anyone out there from the class of 1985, our last reunion was held in September of 2000 - only a handful of girls from A, B and C forms came, but at least each form was represented. It would be nice if another reunion could be planned for 2005 (unbelievably, our 20th-year). Maybe notice could go out earlier than last time so that grads who live abroad could plan their attendance in advance. Just today I had a mini-reunion with Sharon Kam Kin, Michelle Jones and Marcia Williams (nee Gaskin)and it was sooooo nice. Hi to all my former classmates. Finally, I want to say that at least four of us have come to the conclusion that our form (A, B, and C) are not aging one bit!!! Circulate this site to any old hilarian with internet access!

Happy Easter to everyone! I am still trying to find classmates who entered BAHS in January 1953 and left in December '57 or '59. It would be wonderful to see you after all these years. For those who can't quite remember dates, you cannot forget persons like Kathleen King (Mickey, centre netballer of that period, and a walking calculator.) Forgive me, Kathleen. Then there was the exciting and excitable Peggy Souter; Agnes Thomas, who was later a principal at St. Francois' in Belmont; fun-loving Dhrupatee Singh. A list of names are in the 2001 archives. So far, Kay Williams, Eriza Rameshwar and Judith Garner would also meet classmates like Rosemary Mollah, Antoinette Salandy, Francis Vierra, Cherry Farmer, Helen Downes and others. Please, daughters and nieces, help us find each other for a reunion in 2003. Gloria Murrell Josiah (gpjosiah@yahoo.com)

Hi everyone from the class of '75/77. Felt really nostalgic reading everyone's comments. For the person who asked about Ms Shurland, apparently she is well. Heard from her niece, Alison Jordan, who was in our class and who now lives in the US. Would really love to see Ms Shurland again .... she once tied my hair up with typewriter ribbon after the rubber band broke. Left this nice blue streak down the back of my white blouse! Would also like to tell her that contrary to her belief at the time, I did manage to go to university and now practice as a breast surgeon. Enough said. Any news on Dr and Mrs Phenic (how DO you spell that?)?

It's such a brillliant idea to have this guest book and to allow us the opportunity to re-connect with girl friends from our past. I'd love to hear from those of you who were in my form/class - I went to Bishops Junior and Senior school - left in 1973 to go to University in Canada and came back to Trinidad for a few years. I worked at Imprint Publishing Company editing and writing People and You magazines. Now I'm in Toronto and I have been working in a shelter for abused women and children for the past 14 years. I'm the Co-Director of their Capital Campaign and responsible for their communications, outreach and fundraising programs. I'd love to be able to help BAHS with fundraising, and I wonder if there is anyone in Toronto who might like to get together. Lesley

This was a joy! Went all the way back to 1997 archives. In 1968, I was a little country girl from Arima who held her breath after Common Entrance waiting hear to if she got in to the famous Bishops! 'Twas a dream come true. I enjoyed being afraid of the British english teacher whose name I have forgotten but who always kept her pencils sharpened to a T; being fascinated by Ms Bishop's theatrics and wonderful garb; Madame Mewa's french; delightful loving Mrs Charles; watching Ms DesVignes romance with the army lieutenant whose name I no longer remember, but who assisted us with Duke of Edinburgh hikes; Ms Chongasing trying to teach me tennis, hockey and rounders. And lots more. Names of friends came tumbling back--Brenda Henry, Colette Lewis, Kim Kelshall, Judith Jute, Kaneeza Karim, Pearl Howard, Cynthia Lezama, Cheryl Goodridge, Audra Ryan, Donna Lee Sing, Roseanne Grell, Penelope Koo, the Abdullah sisters, Carol Franklin, Wynette Hinds, Carol Heath, Marguerite Ann Moore, Beverly Maitland, Karen Innis, Ingrid Lashley---so many more. Thanks to all of you I have a wonderful warm tapestry of memories. I still keep in contact with Rhona Bally-Bisram, Margot Lovell-Thomas, and Paula Mitchell-Morgan. For those of you who have no recall of who I am, I am Charmaine Henry's sister!

Hi, I'm Gwen Macgregor's daughter and this is a response to the person wanting news of my Mum. Unfortunately she's currently in a nursing home and not so well. However I know she carries many dear memories of her years at Bishops and I feel proud to be her daughter and have a Mum who is well remembered. It is very nostalgic reading the messages and brings back such happy memories of my days at Bishops. Mum kept in touch with Miss Sutherland, ex Headmistress, who sadly died a few years ago.

Hello to all Hilarians, especially those of graduating class 1987/9 (B form). I must admit that I never really had the time until today to look at archived notices placed by you all. I have gathered a lot of information that was informative and heartfelt. I will be visiting Trinidad in the next week and I must confess that I have not communicated with anyone from BAHS in a long time. I lost touch with everyone and hope that it is not too late to find some of my class and, if not, others who remember me. I am married and have a son, who is 2.5 years old. I live in the UK and work for a law firm here. Should anyone like to catch up on old times, my email address is V.Kernahan@solnick.com I wish you all the best and I think this website is GREAT!!!

I learned about the Hilarian website through Marlene Henry Smith, now living in the Bahamas, checked it out and became very nostalgic and can't wait to participate in a reunion someday. I have been living in California for over 20 years now, and am long overdue for a visit to Trinidad. I have a 13 (and a half) year old son, whose name is Nile Alexander-Kelly. I am a photographer and would love to submit a photo or two for the site. My site is under construction now and due to be up and running by January 1st, 2002, at whcih point it can be visited by all who may be interested. Thanks to you all, we Hilarians are indeed a SPECIAL group!!!
Thanks to the efforts of the webmaster/mistress and all who put thier time and labor into the maintaining of what I believe to be 'one of the best sites on the internet!!"
